To claim your rightful place, we must learn to lead. This means developing our own emotional intelligence, as well as honing the competencies that are essential for leaders in the industry. We have to understand the business we’re in, naturally.

 

We also must develop cognitive competencies so we can become smarter about the world today. We must understand how societal changes are affecting people and business, and how technology is affecting education and the workforce of tomorrow.

 

Personal Branding

 

We live in a world in which time has become a luxury, therefore, it is critical that you quickly sell yourself at “hello” or the first “click” because the first five seconds matter! Similar to popular fast-food chains, athletic wear, or your favorite vacation hotel you too have a “brand,” which is made up of what people see immediately during an initial face-to-face interaction, what is mentioned about you when you’re not in the room, and what is revealed through a social media click. Therefore you must design, build, and cultivate your personal brand because you are your own company. During this course you will:

  • Understand the correlation between personal branding and ROI.

  • Learn the art of effective and intentional networking.

  • Learn the importance of “brand crisis management.”

  • Identify individual brand.

  • Receive feedback from “Personal Brand” test.

  • Establish and review current on-line presence, and design content for personal website.

 

 

It’s Not Black and White: Understanding Diversity, Inclusion, and the Bottom Line

In today’s multicultural society it is critical that leaders understand the value that diversity and inclusion have on the organization’s bottom line and how it extends beyond affinity groups. Inclusion must be weaved into every fabric of an organization’s functions, policies, and procedures which will support the recruitment of the best talent, ensure accountability of leader, and establish cultural competencies. Additionally, diverse and inclusive environments organically foster diversity thoughts, which is the beginning of innovation. During this course you will:

  • Define and differentiate between diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competencies.

  • Understand the impact the lack of diversity inclusion has on the bottom line.

  • Describe what an inclusive workplace looks like and its benefits to all employees.

  • Identify areas of unintentional bias.

Learning to become an effective leader is a skill that is both intuitive and experiential and is often shaped in our personal life occurrences. With each experience encountered, adding to the proverbial “toolbox,” as either a best practice or “never try that again” practice is critical to the development of personal leadership style and these tools will be the building blocks for your journey. Cubicle to Corner Office offers small group working sessions, real world simulations, networking and special presentations from motivating speakers to bring together a well-rounded and meaningful experience. In this track you will:

  • Gain critical leadership skills and build self-confidence and independence through public speaking and group presentations.

  • Enhance your leadership ability, cross cultural communication, goal setting, decision making, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Learn from and exchange ideas with some of the area’s top business leaders, policy officials, journalists, diplomats and academics.

Becoming a developed leader can include various opportunities such as training, mentorship, educational opportunities, and even experience. To become a change agent, constant growth and applying learned knowledge is critical to individual as it allows for the forward motion of a department.

Leadership Burnout:  

My Bag is Empty and No One Cares

 

As a leader you are always “on stage” for your leadership, peers, and employees and at some point you will begin to feel the burnout. You will become less motivated, less engaged, easily irritated and the level of stress will take a toll on all aspects of your life including your personal life. There are times when you simply want to take an intermission and go behind the curtain and disconnect from your leaders and your team-but you can’t because performance issues need to be addressed, presentations need to be developed and twenty goals need to be accomplished! You are not alone in this as statistics show that approximately 1 in 3 employees feel burned out at some point in their career. However, learning to identify the signs, creating strategy and implementing a care plan is imperative to your continued success. In this course you will:

  • Identify the primary reasons for burnout and develop a “priority plan.”

  • Develop a time-management strategy and plan for “plan crushers.”

  • Learn appropriate management techniques for “Tornado Teammates.”

Being selected to serve on a board is a privilege and a major responsibility as board members are the governing body of an organization. To be an effective decision-maker it is critical to know the policies, rules, expectations and legal responsibilities required to not only protect the board but the organization as well. Simply playing the role of the board member is ineffective therefore intentional training is needed. In this class, board members will:

  • Learn the personalities of each board through personality testing.

  • Learn recruitment strategies to ensure that the board reflects the needs of the organization.

  • Discuss board and individual member duties.

  • Learn the legal parameters of board membership.

  • Learn fundraising techniques and strategies.
